The Movement // ROOTS – Jeremy Austill

In light of
the current societal norms and trends it is imperative we continue down a path
of enriching the spiritual life and faith of our children. The common
measurements of a successful week of camp are the number of kids saved,
rededicated, filled with the Holy Spirit and called to the ministry. However, We are in a moment that demands of us a deeper
focus. We will certainly celebrate with great joy the lost being found, the
empty being filled and the bound being freed, but it is our longstanding prayer
that these moments will serve as catalysts. We desire for these moments to be
rich encounters with the Love of God that compel our children to put their
roots into the love of God and the ways of His Kingdom. As we prayed about this
years camp language, our theme, three verses became guideposts to what we sense
the Holy Spirit is saying to TYM.

Oh, the joys
of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with
sinners, or join in with the mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the
riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never whither, and they
prosper in all they do. (Psalm 1:1-4)

But blessed
are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and
confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that
reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried
by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop
producing fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

Then Christ
will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow
down into God’s love and keep you strong. (Ephesians 3:17)

This tree,
planted in the soil of the earth and looking like other trees most of the year,
in the unseen places is drawing from a different source, the river, which
causes it to be fruitful in all seasons and hold its beauty regardless of the
climate in the surrounding world. It is our belief we can raise a generation of
children that are indeed planted in this earth yet are so tapped into the
source of heaven that like the tree in the artwork, they break free from the parameters
of the normal and clearly defined. They flourish, they thrive, they become an
example to the earth of the benefits of our God. They transcend from “good
Christian kids” to being bountiful in fruit, highly favored, prosperous in all
they do, steadfast in devotion, unwavering under pressure, vibrant in adversity
and confident in the immeasurable love of their Father. ROOTS is about the
spiritual vibrancy of our students and how they reflect God’s Kingdom in the
